PIXMA Wireless Setup Guide (Windows & Mac)

Complete step-by-step instructions to connect your PIXMA printer to WiFi and print wirelessly in minutes.

What you’ll need: PIXMA printer (MG3620, TS6420a, or G7020), WiFi network with 2.4GHz band, Windows or Mac computer

Method 1: App-Guided Setup (Recommended)

Using the official setup app or installer is the fastest and most reliable way to get your PIXMA printer printing wirelessly.

Step 1 – Prepare the Printer

  • Remove all orange protective packaging tape from inside and outside the printer
  • Open the cartridge door and install ink cartridges until each clicks into place
  • Load plain white paper into the paper tray
  • Connect the power cable and press the ON button
  • Wait for the printer to finish initializing (Power light stops flashing)

Step 2 – Download the Setup Software

Visit the official support site and search your PIXMA model to download the full driver and software package. On iPhone or Android, search "PIXMA" in the App Store or Google Play.

Step 3 – Run the Installer

  1. Double-click the downloaded installer on Windows or open the .dmg on Mac
  2. Accept the license agreement and follow the on-screen prompts
  3. When asked for connection type, select Wireless LAN Connection
  4. Keep the printer powered on and near your router during setup

Step 4 – Connect to WiFi

  1. The installer will search for your PIXMA printer on the network
  2. If not found automatically, select your WiFi network and enter your password
  3. The WiFi indicator light will turn solid blue when connected
  4. On PIXMA models without a screen: hold the wireless button for 3 seconds, then use WPS (see Method 2)

Step 5 – Print a Test Page

Once setup is complete, print a nozzle check from Maintenance in the app or on the printer panel. A clean test print confirms your PIXMA is ready.

Method 2: WPS Button Setup

Most PIXMA models support WPS, letting you connect to WiFi without entering a password.

  1. Press and hold the wireless button on the PIXMA for about 3 seconds until the WiFi lamp flashes blue.
  2. Within 2 minutes, press the WPS button on your router.
  3. The WiFi lamp will turn solid blue — the printer is now connected.
  4. On Windows: go to Settings → Printers & scanners → Add device and select your PIXMA.
  5. On Mac: go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners → + and add via AirPrint or install the full driver.
WPS not working? Some routers have WPS disabled. Log into your router admin panel (usually 192.168.1.1) and enable WPS, then retry. If unavailable, use Method 1 instead.

Troubleshooting PIXMA Setup Issues

PIXMA: Printer not found during setup

  • Ensure the printer is on the same 2.4GHz WiFi network as your computer
  • Temporarily disable your firewall or VPN and retry
  • Restart the printer and run the installer again
  • Try the WPS method (Method 2) as an alternative

PIXMA: WiFi light keeps flashing

  • A flashing WiFi light means the printer is not connected to a network
  • PIXMA printers only support 2.4GHz WiFi — ensure you are not using 5GHz
  • Move the printer closer to the router
  • Re-run wireless setup from the printer menu: Setup → Device Settings → LAN Settings → Wireless LAN Setup

PIXMA: Printer connected but won’t print

  • Set the PIXMA as your Default Printer in Windows Printer Settings
  • Cancel all pending print jobs in the print queue
  • Check that the printer is not set to Offline mode
  • Reinstall the driver from the official support site if the issue persists
